Context of the role

BDO Consultancy is recruiting for an apprentice Project Manager to join our London Office. Initially you will be working on a major programme of work based in London and much of the work will be remote at first due to the pandemic. The apprenticeship will be London-based but may require some UK travel. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter to join an innovative, fast growing IT and Management Consultancy organisation, helping the business to manage projects and programmes efficiently.

The role is to work with the project sponsor for the end-to-end delivery of a project. They have responsibility for delivering the project in line with defined objectives, taking decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Documenting the problem statement and stakeholder needs and converting these into high level business requirements and user stories aligning to industry best practices.
  • Manage the social, legal, and environmental implications of their project.
  • Manage interactions with business functions/departments involved in the project, reporting to the project sponsor, and working within the requirements of the programme and portfolio as appropriate.
  • Contribute to benefits management and realisation, consolidating appropriate metrics to report and ensuring that identified business benefits are achieved.
  • Apply appropriate governance and project management methods and techniques to initiate and execute projects, interfacing with other projects within larger project programmes to meet the strategic objectives of the organisation.
  • Develop a group of direct, sub-contract, or temporarily aligned resources into a coherent team that delivers the project objectives.

 

Knowledge

  • Governance and Financial Control of Projects, evaluating and establishing appropriate project governance through the incorporation of policies, regulations, processes, roles and structures.
  • Business Environment, understanding how projects contribute to businesses operating in local, regional, national, and global economies and knowledge of the main UK business sectors and the parameters within which they operate.
  • Stakeholder and communications management with an understanding of how to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain their support for successful project outcomes.
  • Organisational Change Management including how to work with the project sponsor and within a programme to prepare organisations, teams and individuals for organisational change including an analysis of the current state, preparation of an envisaged future state and plans for progressing from one to the other.
  • Estimating, Planning and Scheduling projects within different planning frameworks
  • Interpreting organisational and programme aims and objectives to develop robust business plans and the requirement to revisit such plans at key stages of a project
  • Applying quality management frameworks and monitoring their impact in a project environment
  • Procuring goods and services in a cost effective, process driven manner.
  • Applying methodologies for risk evaluation and management and mitigating the impact of risks on project performance
  • Applying the concepts of project change control and defining and using appropriate processes to manage scope, requirements, benefits, and critical success factors of a project.
