Context of the role

BDO Consultancy is recruiting for an apprentice Agile Business Analyst to join our London Office. Initially you will be working on a major programme of work based in London and much of the work will be remote at first due to the pandemic.

The apprenticeship will be London-based but may require some UK travel. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter to join an innovative, fast growing IT and Management Consultancy organisation, working with businesses to improve their information system and business processes.

The role is to work with the business to understand the needs of stakeholders and how these can be met through business change and IT solution delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Documenting the problem statement and stakeholder needs and converting these into high level business requirements and user stories aligning to industry best practices.
  • Presenting business artefacts using industry standards in a meaningful and logical way and engaging stakeholders to analyse and validate requirements.
  • Involved in stakeholder engagement, ensuring collaboration between business and technical stakeholders including customers, business users, suppliers, product owners, software developers, testers, and technical leads.
  • Mapping out benefits, strategic objectives, and outcomes to ensure the right problems are solved and the right products developed.
  • Model business processes across departments, functions, and partner domain to facilitate, coordinate and document requirements for the proposed business and IT changes.
  • Supporting business acceptance testing and customer acceptance testing to ensure that the proposed solution meets the defined requirements.
  • Work closely with delivery teams and enterprise architecture practice to make recommendations for improvement in relation to the business operating model (People, process, services, and information systems).
  • Support and facilitate internal and external workshops, conduct interviews and work with customer team to document user research.

  • The definition of Business Analysis and the range of activities that constitute it
  • The role of the Business Analyst, and its relationship with other roles on a business change initiative, including those with system development responsibility
  • Business change and system development life cycles, including the use of appropriate methodologies and the impact of organisational culture and context
  • The principles, features and differences of waterfall and agile methodologies for project delivery and software development
  • The importance of effective communication and engagement with a range of stakeholders in relation to Business Analysis assignments
  • Approaches to conducting internal and external environmental analysis of an industry domain
  • The advantages and disadvantages of a range of investigative techniques
  • The purpose of process modelling and the importance of an organisational view of business processes
  • The different phases of testing of business and system changes
  • Approaches to categorise, validate and prioritise requirements
  • The purpose and activities of the gap analysis process
